Ever had your RAM suddenly max out while opening a file? Try using the purge and audit commands on all xref files. Also, use the -purge command to delete regapps in the main file and its xrefs. I actually detached one specific XREF file and a Nearmap image, then the file opened instantly. It seems there is a bug with XREFs.
